Everyone at Sunderland's two City Learning Centres would like to welcome you to our website.
The aim of the site is to be a one stop shop for all information about the two Sunderland CLCs. Please feel free to have a browse around. It is very much a work in progress and we will be adding features as we go.

Free computers and broadband for low-income families - Update

Just to let you know that the home access scheme have stopped issuing any more application packs.
The scheme is not closed and those who have already received an application pack, but as yet have not returned a completed application form must do so as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.
Families are not guaranteed a grant until they have submitted a completed application form with correct evidence and received their ‘Notice of Entitlement’.
Can I urge you to remind parents to complete and return the form as soon as possible so they can join the 1478 Sunderland students who have been successful in receiving a grant so far. We have done exceptionally well as a City and it would be great to grab the last few grants for our students.
Special schools and schools supporting students with specific needs should pay particular attention to the information below.
Assistive Technology packages
For children with profound Special Educational Needs (SEN) and/or physical impairments
A tailored ‘Home Access application form for Special Educational Needs’ has gone to print this week, and will be available for applicants from next Monday. The process for applying for a bespoke Assistive Technology package has not changed and mandatory documentation remains the same: Statement of SEN, Disability Living Allowance or a signature from the SENCO/senior teacher/LA rep. However, Child Benefit Award letters are not required now to be included as a piece of evidence.
The original Home Access application form will still be accepted for ATp2 applications only, so that this cohort does not miss out.
The Government has a new programme to support low income families with free broadband and computers. You may have already received an e-mail with the same information but we wanted to make sure that we made schools aware of the scheme by every means we could. Naturally we want students in your school to benefit from the scheme.
If you are a parent and you wish to apply directly check out the information guide to find out if you are eligible then phone 0333 200 1004 for an application pack.
Do you have a group of creative pupils who would like to enter an Animation Competition?

BBC News School Report
Mar 10, 2009 at 12:36 PM
BBC News School Report gives 11-14 year-old students in the UK the chance to make their own news reports for a real audience. On March 26th 2009 Sunderland Schools will be preparing a news broadcast as the final part of the BBC School News Report Project. Pupils will become involved in finding, gathering, writing, assembling, ordering and broadcasting news. They will record interviews, use video and green screen technology to record their reports from the Video Studio in the CLC @ St Roberts. Students from the University of Sunderland will be providing valuable support on the day of the event. More information here
Did you know that you can loan a laptop, a projector, evaluate a Wii, capture images on a HD video camera or perhaps try out new more accessible keyboards?
A project exists within Digital Challenge which offers short term FREE loan of a wide range of technologies. These are offered to the voluntary and community development community within the Sunderland area or any similar group from out of the area who are delivering their work anywhere within Sunderland city borders. Other than standard laptops and projectors there is also some very unusual kit. E-voting, Nintendo Wii's and video/camera equipment to name just a few, not to mention PC accessibility equipment and knowledge available. The aim of the project is to provide short term kit which groups/projects would otherwise not have access to in an effort to extend their use of ICT and increase their capacity. Something ICT can easily achieve.
We remain committed to giving you and your students the very best experience of teaching and learning we can. Please download the CLC update to see how Sunderland CLC's can support you.
