KudosCLC week at St. Roberts of Newminster School

Eighteen year 10 pupils were given the amazing chance to work in the CLC along side Mr Allan the e-learning co-ordinator at the school and Mr Williams, the manager of the CLC, to create a game which gives information about internet safety. This involved a lot of team work and co-operation.  The game was targeted at key stage 3 students and their parents focussing on the dangers of the internet and the benefits of access to large amounts of information.

Free Loan Equipment
Jan 29, 2009 at 10:18 AM

Digital ChallengeDid you know that you can loan a laptop, a projector, evaluate a Wii, capture images on a HD video camera or perhaps try out new more accessible keyboards?

A project exists within Digital Challenge which offers short term FREE loan of a wide range of technologies. These are offered to the voluntary and community development community within the Sunderland area or any similar group from out of the area who are delivering their work anywhere within Sunderland city borders.
Other than standard laptops and projectors there is also some very unusual kit. E-voting, Nintendo Wii's and video/camera equipment to name just a few, not to mention PC accessibility equipment and knowledge available.
The aim of the project is to provide short term kit which groups/projects would otherwise not have access to in an effort to extend their use of ICT and increase their capacity. Something ICT can easily achieve.

Further information can be downloaded
here.

Travelling Tales
Nov 17, 2008 at 04:41 PM

Travelling Tales is part of a new undertaking by the CLCs to facilitate outreach activities
for schools. This one is aimed at G&T Y5 students or Y6 Teachers who want to run
early revision for narrative writing. Its also a nice activity to do in the run up to Christmas.

What's the plan?

Starting at 9:30 on the 11th of December each class who are taking part will start to write a story with the title ‘The Night Before Christmas' Beforehand they will have been given a genre and an email with a writing frame.
As a group they will compose the opening paragraph describing a setting. At 10:00 they will mail their
opening to another school and receive a mail from another school with their story opening. Having read
the other school's introduction they will add the next part: introducing a character that matches the genre
and opening of the story they have received and mail it on.

Southmoor Walking on Sunshine
Nov 13, 2008 at 05:31 PM

Pupils and staff from Southmoor school have been into the studio at the CLC to record there own version of Walking On Sunshine to raise money for Children In Need.

They wanted to do something that fitted in with the Children In Need theme of 'do something different' so they got together a group of people who haven't  sang together, or in some cases ever, before to record a charity single. Emily Hope, one of the students commented "We have all had so much fun and hope to raise lots of money".

The song, which is part of a whole school fundraising effort, can be bought from the school. You can listen to a brief snippet here. You can tell from the recording that they were smiling throughout.
